The New Realities process involved 300 stations, 1,000 people in the “system” and more than 200 people in NPR including the senior team, the board and many others from all levels of the firm.
We started this work with one key assumption – that it was unlikely that one person may know what to do to transform broadcast to new media but that if we set up the right container that the “Wisdom of Crowds” might.
As we began to talk with each other in the fall of 2005, I put together this context paper as a starting point.

In the summer of 2006, I completed a two part final report. The First reflected back directly what I had heard from people in the system. In this first paper, you find maybe yourself and certainly people that you know, being quite clear about what we should do.npr-report-1-final2

In part 2 of my final report, I offered my own conclusions – as I read them again – they still stand. They still await action too. report-2-final-1-wit25fbe9

Here is an excellent paper from Carnegie on Ideastream – carnegie-report-idea-stream
