Tech

Of course having said that “It was not about the technology” – the technology is key. So the paradox is that, the printing press was key to the reformation but it was the idea of a direct relationship with God that was central. The steam engine was key to the industrial revolution but it was using a machine model that was central.

So the social web and all its related technology is key BUT ONLY in so far that they support the central idea that we are shifting from the machine to the natural model.

A key idea in the machine world is scale – you need big machines to do big jobs. In nature, often very small things can make huge changes – think of a virus!

Twitter may well be such a virus – a very small thing that could infect and change large machine like structures.

Why would we like Twitter? I think that Twitter enables us to perform the central function of how all primates deal with power and community – grooming. Here is a post that brings the science to bear on this idea.

Twitter may help change the relationship between conventional broadcast and its “listeners”. Here is how Bryant Park Project, an NPR Morning Radio show, is using twitter to pull in an inner circle of fans who interact 24/7 with the production staff.

Twitter may help us all in emergencies. Here is KPBS using it to keep everyone in the loop during the fire in San Diego County. They used Google Maps and Flickr as well

Here is how we might create a new kind of AP out of Twitter – bringing in millions of “stringers”.

Here is how Twitter was used to break and follow the news of the earthquake in China and the small earthquake in Virginia. See also how by using Google, Chinese Tweets can be translated – there is no language barrier

Here is how Twitter might provide us with a much more immediate and much cheaper way of researching events, shows and experiences of all types

Here is Twitter covering breaking news – one of the Primaries

Here is a film showing why people like Twitter – back to grooming – it gives those of us who work alone or at home a community without all the office politics.

Here is Andy Carvin’s Wiki guide to people and stations that are adopting Twitter in Pub Media

What is your TV going to look like soon? Very small and very big and very connected

Why the web killed TV - Michael Rosenblum showing simply the new metrics – 3 channels – 500 channels – millions of channels = content on its own no longer can reach a mass market that can support masses of  money

So when content is everywhere – where is the new value model and how does tech help?

What will happen when the car is connected?

Here is a great video that shows you what people feel about their use of Twitter
